ITIC’s Claims Review 55

Welcome to the 55th edition of ITIC’s Claims Review.
The ITIC board met in Montreal for its September 2026 board meeting. ITIC continues to be in excellent health, financially strong and maintaining its position as the leader in its field.
ITIC has expanded its additional product offering in response to the evolving needs of ship managers and yacht professionals. ITIC now provides debt collection and MARPOL
costs cover for ship managers, and commission collection insurance for yacht brokers and agents.
This edition of the Claims Review provides a selection of marine cases recently handled by ITIC. The cases cover a wide range of issues, including hidden ship defects, documentation errors, regulatory investigations and contractual time bars.
An in-depth interview with ITIC’s Senior Account Executive, Wing Tsang, features in this issue as part of a regular interview series with the Claims Review editor. Wing discusses his experience of claims handling, as well as the challenges and rewards of supporting members through complex matters.
This edition also includes an exclusive video with Account Executive Maria Michael, where she explains how a ship agent’s signing error resulted in their involvement in a US$2.3m claim. Finally, the legal team share their insights in an article exploring whether a management agreement can be terminated when fees remain unpaid.
ITIC would like to extend its thanks to those who continue to submit questions for the “Ask the legal team” feature. Questions for future editions can be sent to askeditorCR@thomasmiller.com.
