Small craft P&I insurer Carina to be rebranded Aurora, Great Lakes underwrites

Small craft P&I insurer, Carina, acquired by MECO at the end of 2018, is being rebranded to Aurora, effective July 1st 2022.

At this time Munich Re Group will become the underwriters of Aurora, with MECO Group operating as managers. Aurora will be underwritten by Great Lakes insurance SE, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Munich Re Group, under a combined underwriting management agreement with the MECO Group that includes the Charterers P&I Club.

GLISE has been the underwriter of the Charterers P&I Club since 2009.

Aurora will continue to focus on providing P&I Insurance to operators of vessels less than 10,000 gt engaged in short sea trade, specialist operations, cruising, passenger and ro/ro traffic, small craft on inland waterways and yachts over 15m gt.

The MECO Group, established in London in 1974, is a specialised marine MGA operating across three hubs in Shanghai, Dubai, and London. The Group, which manages Aurora, Transmarine and the Charterers P&I Club, has a long-standing relationship with the Munich Re Group.
